The CDCP is a government program designed to make dental care easier to access for Canadians who need it the most.

Since May 2024, this plan has been helping individuals and families earning less than $90,000 a year who don’t have dental insurance. It’s a great way to ensure you and your family get the dental care you need without worrying about high costs.

How Does the Canadian Dental Care Plan Work?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is designed to help cover dental costs, but it’s important to know that it’s not a completely free program. It’s managed by Health Canada and provides partial assistance with dental bills based on your family’s income.

Here’s how the cost-sharing (co-payment) system works:

  • Minimal co-payment: If your family’s net income is less than $70,000, you’ll only pay the difference between what the CDCP covers and the set dental fees. This means your out-of-pocket costs will be very low.
  • 40% co-payment: If your family earns between $70,000 and $79,999, you’ll need to pay 40% of your dental costs.
  • 60% co-payment: Families earning between $80,000 and $89,999 will cover 60% of their dental expenses.

It’s also worth noting that some dental treatments may not be covered by the CDCP. Depending on the kind of procedure, there might be extra charges for these services.
